Roll On-site Special Inspection Record

As the core component of the rolling mill that directly rolls metal materials, the roll's surface quality and internal performance are directly related to the precision and production efficiency of rolled products. Once there are hidden defects such as "soft spots", it is very likely to cause equipment failures, affect production stability, and even result in economic losses.

Recently, in response to the customer's special needs, we went to the site to carry out roll non-destructive testing work.

Combined with the on-site roll curvature and actual surface working conditions, we selectedsemi-rigid probes combined

with array eddy current testing technology to conduct precise scanning on 4 key detection points one by one,

comprehensively investigating hidden defects and protecting the customer's production with professional technology.

The following is a detailed summary of this on-site inspection.

  • Basic Information

    Testing Engineer: Wang Guoqing

    Test Date: May 23, 2025

    Test Location: Client Site

    Test Subject: Roll

    Test Equipment: MEA-128

    Test Probe: YT-BG054-HR

  • Process Record

Semi-rigid probes were used to conduct scanning separately on the surface soft spots of Rolls 1-4:

    1. Soft spot inspection of Roll 1; the on-site photo of Soft Spot Area 1 of Roll 1 is as follows:

Scan Results of Soft Spot Area 1 on Roll 1:

2.Soft spot inspection of Roll 1. The on-site photo of Soft Spot Area 2 of Roll 1 is as follows:

Scan Results of Soft Spot Area 2 on Roll 1:

3.Inspection of Abnormal Area Detected by Conventional Eddy Current for Roll 2At the customer's request,

inspection was performed on the abnormal signal area detected by conventional eddy current, and the C-scan display obtained is shown below:

Observing the signals in the above figure and referring to the impedance plane diagram on the right, it can be seen that the signal amplitude at this point is 1.8094 V, which is far higher than other signal amplitudes in the area. Therefore, it is confirmed that an abnormality exists at this position.

4.Inspection of Partial Circumferential Area of Roll 3

Scan Results of Partial Circumferential Area of Roll 3:

From the above test results, no obvious abrupt signals were observed in the Cscan image.

It can be determined that this area is normal.

5.Inspection of Partial Circumferential Area of Roll 4

Scan Results of Partial Circumferential Area of Roll 4:

It can be observed from the above test results that no obvious sudden change signal is found in the C-scan image. Accordingly, the area is judged to be normal.

    Test Conclusion

    1. By analyzing the test results of several roll samples provided by the customer, the array eddy current instrument

can detect the "soft spot" defects existing in this area.

    2. When analyzing the acquired test data, the C-scan view and impedance plane diagram shall becomprehensively

considered to evaluate whether there are "soft spot" defects in this area.
